AAAA Region II recap Oct. 9, 2012
Byrnes's Evan Sudduth recorded the longest rushing play in AAAA Region II this season in his game against Riverside last week. Sudduth ran for 60 yards on the play and finished with 80 on the day as his team defeated the Warriors.
Byrnes extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Riverside, 64-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
The Rebels' dynamic duo of Shuler Bentley and Akia Booker proved tough for Steve Eoute's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bentley threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns and Booker had 105 yards receiving. Greg McHam helped Byrnes' passing attack out by catching three balls for 53 yards.
Hyleck Foster was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 181 yards on 16 carries as Gaffney bested the Warriors. Shaq Davidson also contributed to the rushing game with 122 yards on the ground.
The Rebels' Bentley and Booker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AAAA Region II in both passing and receiving yards. Bentley has thrown for 2553 yards this season, while Booker, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 45 catches for 869 yards. Foster from the Indians leads the league in rushing with 603 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Gaffney and Byrnes. Dan Jones' team comes into the matchup ranked 20th in the state, while the Rebels ranks first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Indians and Byrnes face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Gaffney comes in having scored 171 this season, while the Rebels have scored 303. The Indians scored 40 points last week as they defeated Mauldin.
