On Friday, The Round Mountain Knights faced the Tonopah Muckers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Round Mountain took a serious blow against Tonopah, falling 62-24. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Round Mountain in their matchups with Tonopah: they've now lost seven in a row.
Although Round Mountain took the loss, they still got scores from Jason Pomeroy, Keiran Swafford, and Blake Bullington.
Even if they lost, Round Mountain's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Tonopah's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Eberle Schultz and his two sacks.
Leading Tonopah to victory were Dustin Otteson and Drew Otteson. Otteson gained 164 total yards and five touchdowns, while Otteson threw for 257 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Otteson hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Thomas Newell was another key contributor, picking up 146 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Round Mountain's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.3 points per game. As for Tonopah, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Round Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Tonopah will be playing in front of their home fans against Sandy Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sandy Valley is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
