Basketball Recap: Creede Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Cotopaxi came into Friday's game looking for another win against Creede, but Jasmin Laing wouldn't allow it. The Creede Miners came out on top against the Cotopaxi Pirates by a score of 40-28 on Friday thanks in part to Laing, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 29 times she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Fairchild, who posted 18 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Creede's points.

Despite the loss, Cotopaxi still got an impressive performance from Hayden Eggleston, who scored 26 points and three steals. That was a full 92.9% of Cotopaxi's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Creede pushed their record up to 4-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Cotopaxi, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 5-2.

Creede has already played their next match, a 49-35 defeat against Sierra Grande on the 24th. As for Cotopaxi, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 24-21 loss against South Park on the 23rd.
