Jacob Oaks of Southside Christian ran for the longest rushing play in A Region II this season against Whitmire last week. Oaks ran for 63 yards on the play and finished with 61 on the day as his team topped the Wolverines.
Christ Church Episcopal extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating St. Joseph's Catholic, 49-14. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Cavaliers.
Southside Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. John Walker threw for 208 and three touchdowns and Colby Boggs had 88 yards receiving. On the ground Spencer Alverson chipped in 97 yards. Zack VanWingerden helped Southside Christian's passing attack out by catching four balls for 57 yards.
Mitchell Gentry made the biggest impact on defense this week as Steve Lockwood's team defeated Whitmire. The senior recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
The Sabres' Walker and Boggs have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Walker has thrown for 1927 yards this season, while Boggs has 58 catches for 762 yards. Donald Addis' team's Sam Miller leads the league in rushing yards with 218.
Going into this week's game against the Knights, Southside Christian's Walker needs 73 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in A Region II this week will be when Christ Church Episcopal takes on the Wolverines. Don Frost's team is in first place, while Whitmire is in fourth place.
