Softball Recap: Canyon View Extends Home Winning Streak to 19

Canyon View had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Desert Edge Scorpions 11-1. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.

Audrie Castaneda spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sedona Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Gracie Harkins was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

Canyon View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Canyon View's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Desert Edge, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Canyon View will square off against Verrado at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Jaguars 1.4, the Vipers 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Desert Edge, they will take on Paradise Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.85 runs per game on average), something the Scorpions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
