South Central recap September 10, 2013
Ava scaled the state rankings by moving to 176 from 212 this week, the biggest jump in South Central. The Bears climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Logan-Rogersville 40-3.
Liberty was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Springfield Catholic. The Eagles came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Tanner Barnes put up the best numbers through the air as Cabool lost to Strafford. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns. Barnes' favorite target this week was Taylor Bay, who caught 4 passes for 62 yards.
James Denton was the best receiver in the league this week as Liberty bested the Fighting Irish. Denton tallied 5 receptions for 71 yards. Jansen Acklin helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 42 yards.
Jaelon Acklin was a passing and rushing force as the Eagles topped Springfield Catholic. He completed 10 passes for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 45 yards.
Bryan Porter was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 129 yards as Liberty topped Bob Cornelison's team. Teammate Josh Pruett added to the ground attack by rushing for 56 yards.
A big matchup in South Central this week will be when Mountain Grove takes on Ava. As it stands, the Panthers are in second, while the Bears are in sixth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Mountain Grove takes on Ava. Richard Johnson's team has allowed 18 points this season, while the Bears have given up 22. The Panthers allowed 18 points last week as they bested Hollister.
The Eagles took down the Fighting Irish 50-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Acklin during the win.
