Lexington Grogg made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tyler Ratliff and Jacob Stewart did most of the damage at the plate: Ratliff went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Stewart went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Ratliff has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Roddick Page, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Gilmer County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ritchie County only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, Roane County won against Clay County on Tuesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Raiders came out on top against Poca by a score of 6-2.
Colton Ash tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Roane County: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Landen Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Roane County is undefeated when Williams posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Byron Taylor, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Gilmer County's record now sits at 13-1. As for Roane County, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gilmer County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like Roane County struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gilmer County beat Roane County 4-1 in their previous meeting last Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
