The South Mecklenburg Sabres posted their closest win since November 30, 2023 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Palisades 52-49. Given South Mecklenburg's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Pumas are ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peter Moye continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Yariel Chudgar, who scored six points along with four steals.
Palisades' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kingston Henry, who scored 14 points along with seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jyler Standifer, who scored 12 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for South Mecklenburg and bumps their season record up to 18-3. As for Palisades, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Mecklenburg will take on the Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Palisades, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Olympic has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
