Softball Recap: Greater Beckley Christian Gets the Win

Greater Beckley Christian had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-5 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Mount View Golden Knights 7-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Crusaders also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Leah Adkins made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Adkins was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Aislinn Pelfrey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kynsleigh Pelfrey, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

As for Mount View, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-6. Their defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

On Mount View's side, Phoebe Dudgeon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Dudgeon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kayleigh Rose was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and one run.

Coming up, Mount View will take on Summers County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Knights are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. Greater Beckley Christian will be paying especially close attention to Mount View's match: after Mount View faces off against Summers County, they'll take on Greater Beckley Christian again at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
