The Doherty Spartans came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 66-55 win over Air Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Doherty was led to victory by Solomon Latimer and Elijah Mack. Latimer scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, while Mack scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The match was Mack's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Unseth, who scored eight points.
Loss or not, Air Academy got some senior leadership from Max Howery who scored 27 points along with four steals and Noah Hellem who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. Hellem scored a full 41.8% of Air Academy's points, the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Doherty's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Air Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Doherty has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome ThunderRidge at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. ThunderRidge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 344 points over their last five matchups. As for Air Academy, they will be playing at home against Pueblo South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
