The Silverado Skyhawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Western by a score of 31-29. Silverado was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Several Skyhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Timia Thomas, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and two steals. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aerial Canilas, who scored seven points.
Western found their leader in underclassman Laila Lwaba, who scored 20 points along with six steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Lwaba has scored at least a third of Western's points. Qaaima Taylor was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Silverado's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Western, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-11 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Silverado will take on the Gators at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Green Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. As for Western, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. Sierra Vista is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
