The Riverside-Durham Pirates can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Northern Durham by a score of 41-34. This was payback for Riverside-Durham, who suffered a 30-29 loss the last time these two teams met.
Jasmine Chapman had a dynamite game for Riverside-Durham, almost dropping a triple-double on 22 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. It was the first time this season that Chapman pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shameia Holder, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Northern Durham lost, one person who can't be blamed is Victoria Holden. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with six steals and six blocks. Holden has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ky Walker, who scored six points.
Riverside-Durham's victory bumped their record up to 4-15. As for Northern Durham, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12.
Riverside-Durham will head out on the road to challenge Hillside at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hillside is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season. As for Northern Durham, they will play host again and welcome East Chapel Hill, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Chapel Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Wednesday.
