Basketball Recap: Perry Comes Up Short

On Thursday, the Perry Panthers didn't have quite enough to beat the Chaney Cowboys and fell 52-50. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cowboys 15-10 in the first quarter.

Defeat or not, Perry got some senior leadership from Luke Wolf and Drake Jacobsen. Wolf posted 16 points along with six boards and three blocks, while Jacobsen went 6 for 14 on his way to 16 points. The matchup was Wolf's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Haley, who had six points.

Perry has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Chaney, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Perry won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Washington at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Washington's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games. As for Chaney, they and Solon will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Chaney is facing Solon at the right time seeing as Solon is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
