Cape Elizabeth dropped down to 12-5 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Fryeburg Raiders by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 back in April.

Maxwell Hayward put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Hayward wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Grela, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Cooper Justh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Fryeburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games.
Like Cape Elizabeth, Fryeburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Chappell. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Chappell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Noah Day was excellent, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Allain, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
As of now, neither Cape Elizabeth nor Fryeburg have any future games scheduled.
