Brantley McCoy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McCoy was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Rhett Burford looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brycen Ochs, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Tavis Honeycutt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Suwannee beat North Florida Christian 6-1 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Like Newberry, Suwannee also got a great game from a two-way player: Noah Lopez. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lopez has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Suwannee: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jace Moran was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Colton Rogers also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Suwannee pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Newberry, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Newberry came up short against Suwannee in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 10-5. Can Newberry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
