Wakefield hasn't had much luck against Wake Forest recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolverines will challenge the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wake Forest will be up against a hot Wakefield squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Wolverines never let Enloe get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Tuesday. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wolverines yet this season.
John Monahan looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mikey Katz, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Hunter Lentz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Wakefield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Enloe only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wake Forest). They blew past Seaforth 15-5 on Wednesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Griffin Gerrity looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Easton Booser was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Parrino, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Wakefield's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Wake Forest, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wakefield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wake Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wakefield came out on top in a nail-biter against Wake Forest in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
