It was a good run, but the Pioneer Diamondbacks unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of McAllen. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Pioneer of the 56-45 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Pioneer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Julian Valdez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Edward Chavez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Pioneer's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for McAllen, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8.
Pioneer will take on McAllen Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. McAllen Memorial presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pioneer in Texas (McAllen Memorial is ranked 198th, while Pioneer is ranked 608th). As for McAllen, they will head out on the road to square off against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
