After a string of four wins, The Cody-Kilgore Cowboys/Cowgirls''s good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 50-24 walloping at the hands of Hay Springs. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cody-Kilgore in their matchups with Hay Springs: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Cowboys/Cowgirls players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Knox, who rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Knox is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasper Roseberry, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Gage Mintken had an outrageously good game for Hay Springs as he rushed for 231 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per carry. Mintken's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Dylan Young got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Cody-Kilgore's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Hay Springs, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3.
Cody-Kilgore will square off against Parkview Christian at 0:00 a.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Parkview Christian is ranked 51st, while Cody-Kilgore is ranked 57th). As for Hay Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hampton at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hampton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.
