Basketball Recap: Castaic Takes a Loss

Castaic suffered their biggest defeat since February 2nd on Monday. They had to suffer through a 84-53 loss at the hands of the Moorpark Musketeers. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 544th, while the Musketeers are ranked 216th).

Castaic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jack S, who posted 12 points. Alvin C was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Moorpark found their leader in sophomore Levi Oakes, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Oakes' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Massa, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points.

Castaic moved to 5-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Moorpark, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

Castaic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 73-47 defeat against West Ranch on the 3rd. As for Moorpark, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-51 win against South Hills on the 3rd.
