Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail six more threes than your opponent, a fact the Peru Tigers proved on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 63-43 margin over Lewis Cass. Given Peru's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Lewis Cass is ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Roettger continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Eldridge, who scored 13 points along with six assists.
Lewis Cass lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being L.j. Hillis, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Rudd, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Lewis Cass were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Peru pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Lewis Cass, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Peru will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Miami at 6:00 p.m. on December 27th. North Miami is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. Lewis Cass' road trip will continue as they head out to face Tipton at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th. Tipton will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
