Division I recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to South Kingstown, who defeated first ranked Portsmouth, 25-22.
The Patriots' Matthew Sewall recorded the longest rushing play in Division I this season in his game against the Rebels last week. Sewall's team lost to South Kingstown as he sprinted for 38 yards on the play and finished with 133 in all.
La Salle Academy's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jace Pena threw for 95 and 2 touchdowns and Keon Wilson had 67 yards receiving. On the ground Dontre Odufunade contributed 197 yards. Sam James helped La Salle Academy's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 28 yards.
The Rams' dynamic duo of Pena and Wilson proved tough for Cranston West to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. James helped La Salle Academy's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 28 yards.
Odufunade was a passing and rushing force as La Salle Academy defeated the Falcons. Odufunade's favorite target this week was Wilson, who caught 5 passes for 67 yards.
Cranston East's ALEX CORVESE and MARVEN BEAUVAIS have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback CORVESE has thrown for 1,336 yards this season, while BEAUVAIS has 28 catches for 592 yards. Remy Blue from Bishop Hendricken leads the league in rushing with 655 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between the Hawks and Cranston West. Bishop Hendricken comes into the matchup ranked first in the state, while Steven Stoehr's team ranks 10th.
Keith Croft's team extended the longest winning streak in Division I this week by beating Tolman, 40-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Hawks.
