The Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs entered their tilt with the Shelbyville Golden Bears with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Everything went Franklin Community's way against Shelbyville on Wednesday as Franklin Community made off with a 61-40 victory. Given Franklin Community's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Shelbyville is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Micah Davis was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Franklin Community's points. Wyatt Nickleson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Despite the defeat, Shelbyville saw an underclassman step up: Mar Nicholson scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kohen Myers, who scored seven points.
Franklin Community's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Shelbyville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Franklin Community will take on Mooresville at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Shelbyville will finish 2023 at home by hosting Martinsville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
