Baseball Recap: St. Thomas Aquinas Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

St. Thomas Aquinas made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Nova, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Titans on Thursday. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Brady Buxbaum was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Buxbaum was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Thomas Giltner looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Alvarez, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Cole Lasher was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

St. Thomas Aquinas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nova only posted an OBP of .217.

St. Thomas Aquinas is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Nova, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Thomas Aquinas will take on West Boca Raton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nova, they will challenge Flanagan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
