The Northland Prep Academy Spartans will face off against the Round Valley Elks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Northland Prep Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.3 runs per game this season.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Northland Prep Academy's offense. They came up short against Williams on Wednesday, falling 14-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Spartans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Round Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hopi a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Elks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.
Carla Arreola made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Round Valley got a massive performance out of Skyler Hevener, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Hevener a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Autum Webster, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Round Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Round Valley pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Northland Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northland Prep Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Round Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Northland Prep Academy's way against Round Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Northland Prep Academy made off with an 8-2 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Elks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
