The Lyman Greyhounds lost against the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Lyman fell just short of New Smyrna Beach by a score of 50-48. While losing is never fun, Lyman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while New Smyrna Beach is ranked 144th).
Despite the loss, Lyman still got an impressive performance from Max Mattingly, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Joseph Lewis was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Lyman and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for New Smyrna Beach, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1.
Lyman won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Titusville at 5:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. New Smyrna Beach won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lake Howell at 8:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Hopefully Lake Howell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
