Churchill County found their leader in underclassman Jada Anastasio, who scored 21 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Anastasio has scored at least a third of Churchill County's points. Another player making a difference was Janessa Bettencourt, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Lowry really took it to Elko for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-28 victory on the road. With Lowry ahead 36-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Lowry's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Britain Backus, who scored 24 points, and Savannah Stoker, who scored 20 points along with six assists and six steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Backus has scored at least a third of Lowry's points. Khlloe Shorey was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 13 rebounds.
Churchill County has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Lowry, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 17-5.
Friday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Churchill County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lowry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
