The Germantown Clippers will head out on the road to challenge the Maple Hill Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Germantown took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Watervliet, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Clippers skirted past the Cannoneers 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Clippers considering their two-run performance the match before.
The team relied heavily on Adele Heuer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira Cavanaugh, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Maple Hill had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Titans a 4-0 shutout.
Madison Camadine made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Halle Feldman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played.
Maple Hill pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Germantown, they moved to 4-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Germantown's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Clippers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Maple Hill, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Germantown continue to outrun the ball?
Germantown might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Maple Hill in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Clippers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
