The Claxton Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Bryan County Redskins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Claxton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while Bryan County is ranked 182nd).
Claxton fell victim to Screven County's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Gamecocks, falling 28-0. Claxton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Bryan County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past Savannah, posting a 66-8 victory at home. Considering Bryan County has won five contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Austin Clemons got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Gage Javis also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Claxton has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Bryan County, their win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Claxton suffered a grim 40-19 defeat to Bryan County in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Claxton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
