The Live Oak Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Teurlings Catholic Rebels at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Live Oak duked it out with Archbishop Hannan on Monday. Live Oak's pitchers stepped up to hand Archbishop Hannan a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Cole DeLaughter tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brock Davis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Jace Griffin was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Teurlings Catholic came tearing into Monday's match with six straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Panthers 10-2.
Jace Garber looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had over his last five contests.
At the plate, Teurlings Catholic's win was truly a team effort as nine different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Will Power, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Brant Badeaux also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Teurlings Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive games.
Live Oak pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Teurlings Catholic, their record now sits at 12-1.
Live Oak beat Teurlings Catholic 4-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Live Oak since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
