The Wayland-Cohocton Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Haverling Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Wayland-Cohocton has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Wayland-Cohocton will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Geneseo on Tuesday. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Blue Devils 14-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 10, 2024.
Wayland-Cohocton got a big performance out of Alex Fedorchuk, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Loop, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Haverling entered their tilt with Edison on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 12-8.
The team relied heavily on Lukas Wightman, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Dante Nealey also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Haverling's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Wayland-Cohocton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wayland-Cohocton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Haverling struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wayland-Cohocton was able to grind out a solid victory over Haverling in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
