Escondido Charter (Escondido, Calif.) gained the lead on a
Kyler Chumbley touchdown run with 1:00 left in the fourth quarter to upset
Vincent Memorial (Calexico, Calif.) 29-22 on Saturday.
After trailing 7-6 at the half, the Scots went ahead on a touchdown pass by
Madrigal Luis to
Joel Hermosillo with 9:00 left in the third.
Escondido Charter expanded its lead to seven points entering the fourth quarter. EC scored two times in the third, including once on a
Mutula Kwangaba touchdown run.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Escondido school, which was coming off a 40-0 defeat at the hands of Mountain Empire in its previous game. The loss comes after Vincent Memorial defeated Calipatria 41-0 last week. The victory snapped Escondido Charter's two-game losing streak.
In a Manzanita game next week Escondido Charter (3-4) takes on Holtville, and Vincent Memorial (5-2) will go up against Crawford also in a Manzanita game.
