Softball Recap: Polytechnic Wins Going Away Against Westridge

Polytechnic was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Westridge on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 19-1. That looming 19-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.

Amelia Shih and Kate Asperger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Shih didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Asperger pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shih has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Shih scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Asperger scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Brynn Connolly was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carthan Connolly, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Polytechnic now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Westridge, they dropped their record down to 4-3-1 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
