Spanish River is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Coral Glades Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Spanish River took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They really took it to Wellington for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-0 victory. Considering the Sharks' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spanish River to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacorrion McCrary, who rushed for 72 yards and two TDs on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeden Phillips, who threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes.
Spanish River's run defense was locked in: Wellington could only muster 0.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Zachary Stelus for the heroic effort on defense: he. Spanish River didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.4.
Meanwhile, Coral Glades got themselves on the board against Stranahan two weeks ago, but Stranahan never followed suit. They walked away with a 7-0 win over the Mighty Dragons. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jaguars.
Spanish River better keep an eye on Romeo Williams. He was instrumental in Coral Glades' win, rushing for 125 yards and one score.
Coral Glades' defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. In that department, Ryan Pierre was the leader with two sacks.
The victory got Coral Glades back to even at 2-2. As for Spanish River, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.
Everything came up roses for Spanish River against Coral Glades when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 61-6 victory. Will the Sharks repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
