After losing to the Glenwood Springs Demons the last time they met, the Golden Demons decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Golden walked away with a 58-46 win over Glenwood Springs on Friday. Given Golden's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Glenwood Springs is ranked 84th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Golden's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Erger led the charge by scoring 19 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Erger has scored at least 25% of Golden's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Slade Pike, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds.
Glenwood Springs' lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alec Claassen, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds. Claassen scored a full 26.1% of Glenwood Springs' points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sim Wenger, who scored 10 points along with 6 assists and 4 steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Golden and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Glenwood Springs, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Golden will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Sierra at 6:00 p.m. Glenwood Springs will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Lewis-Palmer at 12:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Lewis-Palmer knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Glenwood Springs likes a good challenge.
