Morton and Pisgah are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Panthers will head out to take on the Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Morton's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
Morton barely beat Richland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers blew past the Rangers 11-1 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won three in a row.
Brooklyn Prestage spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

On the hitting side, Morton got a massive performance out of Nylah Laster, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Laster is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Isi Castillo, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Morton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .533 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Pisgah won against St. Andrew's Episcopal on Thursday with three runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Dragons had just enough and edged out Southeast Lauderdale 3-2.
Alyssa McMurtrey made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
McMurtrey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ally Young, who went 3-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits Young has posted since back in February.
Morton's record is now 8-10-1. As for Pisgah, their record now sits at 12-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morton might still be hurting after the 16-4 loss they got from Pisgah when the teams last played back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
