Special teams carried
Lockhart (Texas) to a 71-13 victory over Cedar Creek (Bastrop, Texas) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Lions's special teams scored on a kick return and a punt return.
Lockhart was up 48-7 at the half after taking the lead on a
Juan Lopez touchdown run in the first quarter.
LHS expanded its lead to 51 points entering the fourth quarter. The Lions scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Marcos Rodriguez.
Rodriguez and Lopez ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Eagle. Rodriguez scored three touchdowns on the ground and Lopez added two as well.
Cedar Creek's Adam Manibusan was the standout player for his team. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown.
The loss comes after Cedar Creek defeated Lanier 20-13 last week. With the win Lockhart extended its winning streak to three games.
Lockhart (3-0) will play a 4A Region IV District 27 game against Seguin next week, while Cedar Creek (1-2) will take on Hutto in a 4A Region III District 17 game.
