Sheridan Hills Christian hasn't had much luck against Berean Christian recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sharks will welcome the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. Sheridan Hills Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, Sheridan Hills Christian didn't have quite enough to beat David Posnack Jewish Day and fell 5-4. The Sharks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Brodie Maldonado and Alonzo Castro did some serious damage despite the final result: Maldonado went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Castro scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That double marked the first that Maldonado hit this season.
Meanwhile, Berean Christian never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Lake Worth as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Connor King made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Oliver Coronado was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Reilley Moore, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Sheridan Hills Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Berean Christian, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sheridan Hills Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Berean Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sheridan Hills Christian couldn't quite get it done against Berean Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can the Sharks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
