The
Jackson (Mill Creek) volleyball team derailed the state's volleyball dynasty and proved it was the best in the state.
The Timberwolves knocked off Mead of Spokane, which has won six of the previous seven Class 4A state titles, in the state semifinals. Jackson, which won only four matches two years ago, then swept Issaquah 3-0 in the finals for the championship. Tournament MVP Leigh-Ann Haataja had 11 kills, four blocks and three aces in the final.

Seattle Prep, which won three straight state titles from 2001-03, returned to the championship ranks by beating Metro League foe Eastside Catholic 3-1. Senior Gabby Bird-Vogel had 21 kills in the championship match and earned tournament MVP honors for the Panthers.

game this season, and that was to Skyline, the nation's No. 1 team.

SKYLINE, MERCER REPEAT IN THE POOLKatie Kinnear won the 50-yard
freestyle and repeated as the 100 butterfly champ plus she anchored two winning
relays to help
Skyline (Sammamish) repeat as Class 4A state swimming and diving
champ. Grace Wold won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly to help

TOP SWIMMING PERFORMERS* Annemarie Thayer, Ballard (Seattle): The Stanford-bound
swimmer won her fourth straight 100 backstroke title and won the 100 IM
at the Class 4A state meet, winning outstanding swimmer.
* Lauren
Kaufman, Hazen (Renton): The senior was named Class 3A state swimmer of
the meet after winning the 50 and 100 freestyles.
