Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Spearville Lancers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Trego 56-8 on Thursday. Spearville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-0.
Blake Werner threw for 85 yards and a touchdown on only six passes. Zac Cressler was his top target, picking up 85 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Trego found their leader in underclassman Ashton Wynn, who rushed for 242 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 88 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. Wynn is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Spearville has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Trego, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Spearville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Trego will look to defend their home field on November 3rd against Rawlins County at 7:00 p.m. Rawlins County is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
