Basketball Recap: Northampton County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Rocky Mount Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northampton County). They walked away with a 76-64 victory over the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Northampton County also won the last time the pair played back in January.

Northampton County had a senior duo take command as Jiyoun Williams went 12 for 17 on his way to 36 points in addition to six boards and five steals and Jereminah Gholson went 12 of 24 on his way to 32 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rashaud Wilder, who posted four points and ten rebounds.

Loss or not, Rocky Mount Prep got some senior leadership from Rashyd Johnson and Kobe Davis. Johnson had 17 points, while Davis put up 16 points. The match was Johnson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Saveion Wall, who posted nine points.

Northampton County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Northampton County will take on Roanoke Rapids in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 79-60 loss against Wilson Prep on the 16th.
