The Reading Rangers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Union City by a score of 42-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Reading has suffered since December 8, 2023.
Reading lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brayden Wright, who scored ten points along with three steals. Wright is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Brady Kling was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Elijah Payne was his usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with two steals for Union City. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Zehr, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Reading has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Union City, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reading will take on Concord at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Reading: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Concord has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road. Union City will take on Calhoun Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun Christian is coming into the contest with seven straight victories on the road, so Union City is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
