The Unicoi County Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Johnson County Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Even though Chuckey-Doak scored an imposing 45 points on Thursday, Unicoi County still came out on top. Unicoi County came out on top in a nail-biter against Chuckey-Doak and snuck past 47-45.
Meanwhile, after only 12 points in their last matchup, Johnson County made sure to put some points up on the board against Holston on Thursday. Johnson County really took it to Holston for the full four quarters, racking up a 43-6 win at home. The result was nothing new for Johnson County, who have now won four games by 23 points or more so far this season.
Johnson County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Simcox, who threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Juan Mejia was another key contributor, rushing for 104 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Unicoi County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Johnson County, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3.
Everything went Unicoi County's way against Johnson County when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as Unicoi County made off with a 24-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Unicoi County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
