Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They walked away with a 16-8 win over the Southwest Leadership Academy Rams.
A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Jace Anderson and his top target Kevin Jones. Anderson rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown while Jones gained 150 total yards and a touchdown. Jones got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of70 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Alex Rodriguez. His also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up three sacks and making eight total tackles.
This is the second loss in a row for Southwest Leadership Academy and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way will hit the road for the first time this season to take on AZ Compass Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southwest Leadership Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on El Dorado at 7:00 p.m. on September 19th.
