The South East Jaguars will challenge the Sylmar Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, South East put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Huntington Park a 12-0 shutout. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Jaguars with their most commanding win of the season.
Not much got past Jonathan Castro, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Huntington Park off the board. Castro also tossed no walks, which is notable because South East is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delonte Jones, who went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Ruben Regalado also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: South East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Sylmar waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Dons as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Alex Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Rickee Luevano and Timothy Sepulveda did most of the damage at the plate: Luevano went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sepulveda went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Matthew Torres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Sylmar's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.2 runs this season. As for South East, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-14.
