The Madison Warhawks waltzed into their match Wednesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They managed a 64-60 victory over De La Salle North Catholic. The win was all the more spectacular given Madison's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 410th in California, while De La Salle North Catholic is ranked 76th in Oregon).
Leading Madison to victory were Caleb Gleason and Eli Stevens. Gleason scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Stevens scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Stevens has scored at least 25% of Madison's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zagar Aiken, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Madison's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for De La Salle North Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Madison and Maranatha will face off at 12:00 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Maranatha focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
