Basketball Recap: Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Takes a Loss

If Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy was feeling good fresh off their 54-20 takedown of Timberlake Christian last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys fell just short of the Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs by a score of 47-44 on Tuesday. The Ospreys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 43-36.

Despite the loss, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Adah Tuckwiller, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Tuckwiller has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Kelsey Threewitts was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

Westover Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emily Evans led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Evans a new career-high in assists (five). Another player making a difference was Chloe Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Westover Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
