The Tahoma Bears will venture away from home to take on the Mount Si Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tahoma's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Mount Si's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mount Si will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Tahoma extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Mt. Rainier. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since April 22, 2024.
Bryson Leach looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Andrew Dyk was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mount Si, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Newport - Bellevue on Wednesday. That looming 10-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.
Jacob Hayes looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mount Si is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Chase Mentink and Jimmy Pratapas did most of the damage at the plate: Mentink scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Pratapas scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Mentink also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Matthew Talbot was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Mount Si has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Tahoma, their record now sits at 7-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tahoma has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mount Si struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
