Providence Athletic Club made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Swansea, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Providence Athletic Club's pitchers stepped up to hand Swansea a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kaylin Otey and Atalie Gauntt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Otey struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Otey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Otey went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Gauntt went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, Bridget Kean was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and one stolen base. Kirsten Thomas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Providence Athletic Club lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Swansea didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman lost 14-4 to Augusta Christian on Friday. The Cardinals have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meetings.
Providence Athletic Club's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.1 runs. As for Cardinal Newman, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Providence Athletic Club suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Cardinal Newman in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can Providence Athletic Club avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
