Jade Curiel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camila Franco, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Angeline Canez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Don Lugo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Diamond Ranch challenged Chaffey on Friday. The Panthers came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 10-6. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Don Lugo, Diamond Ranch also got a great game from a two-way player: Izel Avalos. She tossed seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Avalos was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Rayanna Quintanar was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Emma Ramirez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Don Lugo's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Diamond Ranch, their record is now 12-8.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Don Lugo has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Diamond Ranch struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Don Lugo's way against Diamond Ranch when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Don Lugo made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Conquistadores since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
