Skyline is 0-1 against Trego since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Skyline Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Trego Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Skyline got themselves on the board against Macksville, but Macksville never followed suit. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 54-0 win over the Mustangs. Skyline's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Brayden Berens and Jake Hittle were among the main playmakers for Skyline as the former rushed for 55 yards and three touchdowns and the latter rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns. Berens is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Trego had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They blew past LaCrosse 46-6 at home. 46 seems to be a good number for Trego as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Trego's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ashton Wynn led the charge by rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 56 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Quintin Walt, who rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Skyline to 4-3 and Trego to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Skyline has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 250.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Trego struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Skyline was dealt a bruising 52-6 loss at the hands of Trego in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Skyline, Owen Day (who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
